may be in any of the following forms.

The Gold Medal
The Silver Medal
The Bronze Medal
Certificate of Merit
Letter of Commendation

A medal may be awarded posthumously
at such a level as would have been warranted, had
the nominee survived the attempted rescue.

The following is an indication of the types of cases
which may be considered for awards by this
Society:

All rescues or attempted rescues from drowning
provided the rescues are accompanied by personal
risk.

All cases of bravery where the rescuer is at
personal risk when rescuing or attempting to
rescue persons who lives may be endangered by
fire.

Any other cases of bravery which are directed
towards the savings of lives.

Applications for Awards will not be recognised if
made more than 12 months after the rescue or
attempted rescue has been made, unless the Court
of Directors considers that there are special
circumstances to justify an exception being made.

No award will be made in any case where there is
near relationship of the rescuer to the rescued
unless the Court of Directors considers that there
are special circumstances to justify an exception
being made.

All applications must be accompanied by the
statements of preferably two eye witnesses.
Statements are required to be in the form set out in
the Application form.

Copies of those forms are to be found on this
Web Site or may be obtained by request
from any of our addresses.

The Executive Officer will be happy to provide

Applications for Awards come to the
Society from many quarters:
New Zealand Police
Coroners
The Fire Service
Members of the Public
and
City and District Councils

New Zealand Police Officers are witness to
many acts of bravery
which are performed
at rescues
be it by
civilians or by their own colleagues.

When these situations come to the notice of
the Commissioner's Office
they may then come to
the Society,
with the support of the
Police Commissioner
to be considered by
The Court of Directors.

Without timely Police involvement many
humanitarian acts of bravery
would go unheralded

The Society is indebted to the
Commissioner of Police
and his Awards Advisory Committee for
their invaluable contribution to its work.
